Today I went to a stand I called the pumpkin patch. This is really just a small field of grass, sometimes used for temporary cow grazing and often the animal park next to the area uses it to spread manure. Last year a big patch of Hokaido pumpkins showed up seemingly wild. So I dubbed it the pumpkin Patch.

I picked the field tonight because we are in the middle of the Rut and I hoped to see some rut activity. I was not disappointed. Early in the evening a saw a yearling doe. she came out to much for a bit, but was a bad angle so no shot taken. Then a short while later she came out with a yearling buck. He was chasing her in and out of the woods on the edge. This makes it a little hard to get a shot… but none the less I stayed ready and kept watching. They circled out to the field then back into the woods about 4 times. Never giving me a good shot. shortly before dusk they came out one last time and finally stopped… I got my rifle ready, and froze… both were open… which one to take. By the time I decided on the buck (maybe 10 seconds) they dashed back into the woods again.
